We have a city tour seeing some of the main sights before driving to Modena and Villa San Donnino to discover a fascinating tradition - the production of balsamic vinegar. Thanks to ancient techniques that have been passed down for generations, Modena's traditional balsamic vinegar is the best expression of the fruits of their land, work and passion. We have a brief tour of the vineyard and sample some of their offerings. We return to Florence and our hotel with the remainder of the evening at leisure.

Then we have the fun and memorable experience of participating in a pizza-making class. We are taught how to prepare fresh local cuisine - and then for lunch we enjoy our creations! After lunch, we transfer to the "Eternal City" of Rome. We have free time this afternoon to explore this vibrant and historical city on our own. Stroll the cobblestone streets, find hidden artists stores, shop at one of the local markets, or simply people watch while you sip on a spritz. Dinner is on our own this evening.

FARMERS MARKET/COLOSSEUM/ROMAN FORUM

We start today with a visit to the Campagna Amica Farmers Market. A large, weekend-only market near the Circus Maximus, you can find anything from fresh produce to artisanal goods. Here we have the opportunity to experience local products, support small farms, and find Italian ingredients and gifts. This afternoon we make our way to the Colosseum, begun about AD 72, and the best-known structure remaining from ancient Rome. It was capable of holding more than 50,000 people to view gladiatorial contests, hunts, and mock naval battles. Many of the materials from this magnificent edifice were later used in the construction of various churches and palaces. We then spend some time exploring the Roman Forum, which served as the center of political life and commerce in ancient Rome. The remainder of the evening is at leisure to explore Rome and pack for your return flight home tomorrow.
